Compare street-light wattage proposals by holding the site assumptions and proposed configuration steady, then checking what each quoted power figure actually describes. A watt label alone does not establish lighting performance or suitability; ask for matching evidence and have the project’s qualified reviewer assess the proposal.
Start with road class and pole spacing
Give each supplier the same road layout, project-defined road class or design brief, lane arrangement, pole spacing, mounting height and relevant junction details. Explain whether this is new work or a replacement and include existing constraints. A proposal cannot be compared fairly if one supplier assumes a different site or spacing. Ask your local qualified lighting reviewer to confirm the applicable design criteria.
Ask which power figure the proposal states
Ask whether the stated power refers to the complete luminaire input, an LED module, or another part of the system, and request the supporting document for that exact proposal. Check whether controls or operating modes change the figure and how any such condition is described. Keep the wording and units consistent across quotations; do not infer output, energy use or performance from an unlabeled watt number.
Hold optics and mounting assumptions constant
For a like-for-like review, ask suppliers to identify the proposed optics, colour appearance or CCT, mounting height, tilt and aiming assumptions. Note any differences instead of treating similarly named options as equivalent. Share the same site drawing and constraints for each review. The street lighting series provides broad context, while a qualified reviewer should assess the particular application and local requirements.
Request matching photometric evidence
Request the IES, LDT or other photometric evidence that matches the exact proposed luminaire and optics, if such material is available. Check its identifier, revision and test basis, then ask the project reviewer whether the calculation assumptions match your layout and mounting conditions. Evidence for another configuration may not apply. Use the photometric file checklist and street-lighting RFQ checklist to prepare comparable inputs.
Compare commercial terms separately from wattage
Only after the technical assumptions are stated should you compare quoted quantities, included goods, packing, shipping responsibilities, payment milestones or warranty wording. These are order-specific commercial questions; ask each supplier to confirm the exact scope, exclusions and applicable terms in writing. A higher or lower watt figure does not establish a better offer. Confirm configuration and commercial details in the written quotation.
